a sponge is designed to soak up and hold water.

Please note that all gutters require slope to drain quickly during a heavy rain. Proper slope
of 1" per ten feet of gutter is best, but on very long lengths that may not be possible,
so make sure you have a least 1/2" per ten feet of gutter.
